Joshua’s Story – A Child in Response
Lion 102
I lost my two-and-a-half year old son in a drowning accident, his name was Joshua Ryan. I wrote this poem shortly after his death:
A Mother’s Grief
Beautiful child so whole and pure.
I ask myself, can I possibly live without you?
The months I cradled your warm smooth body within mine, has made me a mother.
But child, you were called back to your Heavenly Father and Mother on high who rejoiced to see you again.
Can I cry for you? Can I shed those tears that tell me you’re gone?
Can I be relieved that they love and care for you as much as I do?
A Child In Response
Dearest Mother of the earth, Mother of my physical being.
The angels sing so sweetly here, and loved ones rejoice at my return.
With outstretched arms, my Holy Father and Mother welcomed me.
They told me of a plan, a plan of everlasting life and eternity.
My heart was sad for you and the tears you shed.
As I am about my Father’s work, I am with you in spirit.
May I anticipate the day we are together again with a glow beyond any other?
Sweet Mother of the earth, mother of my physical being.
Be comforted with these thoughts and cry no more.
